If you focus on the sunshine & rainbows that’s all you will see- Happiness Tips

in Inspiration, Lifestyle & Beauty on 06/07/18

“Focus on the sunshine & rainbows and that is what you will see.”

When I say, ” If you focus on the sunshine & rainbows that is all you will see” might make some want to throw up in their mouth. I’ve had my share of ups and downs just like everyone else. There was a time in my life I was so depressed it was hard to come out of my closet. My closet was surrounded by clothes, shoes, and it was the one place in my home for privacy. I could cry my eyes out there and be alone. New shoes and new dresses were only temporary items of joy but became a security blanket of self-worth. My therapist once told me, ” You have bipolar tendencies.” Well, I’ve never been a mainstream kind of girl! I’ve learned to focus on the good and positive portions of my life. For me, a light bulb went off in my head! It was like flipping a switch in my mental state of choosing good thoughts over bad. That is why I focus on the sunshine and rainbows. I celebrate life with Champagne and French music. It’s definitely better than thunderstorms or tornadoes. When I do have down days, I take time away from people, journal, go for a walk, watch a comedy, and sleep. It’s almost a rejuvenation to be ready to face the world again and have an energetic bubbly personality.

Life isn’t always Perfect

We are human and we all make mistakes. There is beauty that can be found in our imperfections and lessons to learn taught by hard experiences. People hurt you sometimes. We may hate our jobs but feel trapped to stay in them. In my early 30’s I felt lost. There are two times in my life that I wasn’t sure it was worth living. The first time was when my marriage was failing and life was miserable. The second time was working a job I hated! I felt trapped and suffocated.

Have faith that good things will happen. The 40’s have been the best years of my life and I had no idea how good they would be in my 30’s. When I say, “You own the power to create your happily ever after.” it doesn’t always jive with some people. They tell me the Fairytale doesn’t exist. It’s like Santa Claus if you don’t believe you won’t receive any presents. You gotta have faith and believe in yourself to make things happen. My point is you have all that it takes to be happy or be sad in this world. You choose what you want to see and how you want to live. Own your life, don’t let it own you.

Spend Time Doing the Things that Make you the Happiest

Did I quit the job I hated? Absolutely! My only wish was that I had quit it sooner. We spend a lot of time working so make sure you do something you enjoy doing. When my marriage was failing, it was ripping apart my self-esteem. I took some time to myself to figure it out. I went to Europe for 30 days! In Barcelona, Spain, I watched a Flamenco dancer dance with more passion than I have ever felt in my life. I came back to the US and vowed to live full of passion. Working on living a life of passion, led to repairing my marriage, finding a job I enjoyed and leading to happiness. After spending time in Europe I realized the world was full of beautiful places and it gave me a strong desire to travel and see the planet I live on. Travel thrills me and makes me excited to get out of bed in the morning. Find that thing for you. Doing things that make you happy is like a miracle cure. Make time for them in your life!!!

Oh, and did you see the photograph above? That is where I found heaven on Earth during one of my travels to Iguazu Falls, Brazil! I am incredibly grateful for the Earth’s beauty. Let it inspire us all!

Do Something Every Day that is Good for Your Mind, Body, or Soul

People are inherently good. I’ve learned this from traveling. Giving or helping someone else is good for your soul. We are in this world together. Help someone out by giving back to your local community or buying a stranger a cup of coffee. These things are so good for your soul and makes your life richer.

When it comes to your mind, meditate, journal or go for a walk. Take some “me” time! It’s ok to be selfish when it comes to your mental health. If you are dealing with depression get a therapist and talk to your close friends. Don’t keep it to yourself.

When your body is healthy your mind is healthy. Take good care of yourself. Treat yourself to a bubble bath, go for a walk, take a yoga class whatever it is that you like to do. Nature is a healing place for me and a hike is good for my body and my mind. Practice doing something that is good for your mind, body or soul every day.

Be Positive

You know how I mentioned thunderstorms and tornadoes? Well if I get negative and become a thunderstorm it is like my whole entire world becomes a violent storm. Everything goes wrong! It is why I believe that we really do have the power to create our own lives. I’ve learned that amazing things happen when I am happy and positive. I get complimentary upgrades, people are friendlier, and the world is a beautiful place! It’s like a life science experience! I’ve found to connect with people and surround myself with people who are happy and positive and it is like they rub off on me too! Negativity and negative people I distance myself from fast! They zap my energy! There is something to be said about spreading good vibes and energy into the world. Be positive in everything you do, even in the hardest challenges and situations you find yourself in. Positive energy is a magnet that everyone wants to connect too.

It’s a Bonnie Thing Advice

I am convinced that if we all focused on the beauty in the world, the sunshine and the rainbows the world would be a better place to live in. I live by these tips for a better life and well, “It’s a Bonnie Thing.” Travel makes me realize how beautiful the world is, my friends and family make me want to celebrate life, and life makes me want to live it to the fullest because it is short. Find your happy, your sunsets, your rainbows, and the things that make you smile. Once you do, make someone else smile too. I truly believe, “We own the Power to Create our own Fairytale.”

Cheers to you today and your happily ever after

Bonnie

Even though we have big, tall mountains like 14ers in Colorado, Mt Baker just always seems bigger but it’s only 10,781 ft. It is the third highest mtn. peak in the state. I love how these mountains just seem to rise from the sea.

We spent the weekend at the Causeway Marina right in the heart of Victoria! This is the prettiest marina I’ve ever stayed in. We cruised to meet the San Juan Island Yacht Club to celebrate their Past Commodores cruise. This is always one of my favorite cruises of the summer calendar. Unfortunately I got sick and missed out on one of the most highlighted events of the season. You know I’m sick if I choose bed over a party with dinner and dancing.

What is your favorite destination on Vancouver Island, Canada? Next summer I am planning a road trip and a boat trip around the island so your comments will be helpful.
